The tournament joins the American and Australian Opens in employing video review technology.
Video review technology are set to arrive at The Championships for the 2025 edition.
Competitors are granted the right to question certain decisions made by the official, following the system currently in operation at each of the US Open and the Aussie major.
The new system is slated for use on Centre Court and the number one court throughout the tournament and on the other four featured courts when they are staging singles matches.
This move follows just a year after the AELTC introduced ELC, which effectively ended the longstanding role of line officials.
What Can Be Reviewed?
Players cannot to dispute the accuracy of the electronic line calling, but they can ask for the umpire to re-examine other decisions, such as:
- If a ball has bounced twice.
- If a shot made contact with an rival's racket or person during play.
- Possible hindrance at the conclusion of a point.
Notably, there will be an unlimited number on the amount of reviews a player can request.
Practical Application
An illustrative incident took place in Indian Wells recently, where a top player used the video challenge against Jack Draper.
Draper admitted it was a difficult call for the umpire, but believed his rival had "used the regulations effectively."
The umpire viewed a replay and determined Draper was guilty of interference, granting the point to his opponent.
Broader Adoption
Video reviews are not new for Grand Slams. It was adopted at the US Open since 2023 and the Australian Open since 2025.
Additionally, it is increasingly prevalent on the WTA circuit, and by the coming year the ATP circuit plans to have the system in place at every one of its events.
Other Changes
A further innovation at Wimbledon 2025 involves the introduction of graphical cues on displays to support the audio calls from the ELC system.
This addresses situations where the crowd have sometimes been unsure whether a ball was in or out.
In other news, with precisely a century of days to go until the beginning of the tournament, the AELTC have also revealed an increase in daily attendance at the qualifying competition in the qualifying venue.
